What is the best way to upgrade go on Ubuntu

Just wanted to ask what the best way to upgrade go on Ubuntu was. I guess you have to remove the current go version and install the new one (which seems really unwieldy). I've tried removing several times with sudo apt-get uninstall purge golang*, sudo apt-get purge golang, etc., and haven't found anything that works for me. the answers I'm seeing all seem pretty old though, just wanted some more recent info.
